TODAY

The St. Louis Peregrine Society is dedicated to improving the quality of life of cancer patients living in the St. Louis area.

For over 70 years, Peregrine’s mission has been “to improve the quality of life of cancer patients” and Peregrine’s mission will remain so until cancer no longer exists.

History

They believed they could and so they did.

In 1948

a group of St. Louis women recognized the need to establish a community service driven organization dedicated to the care of cancer patients. Their vision of a local agency that provided for local needs became a reality in 1949 when the St. Louis Peregrine Society was founded.

Their journey

in founding the Society was not easy. They faced, sometimes seemingly unsurmountable, roadblocks but through it all they never wavered in their belief that their vision would help ease the burden of care faced by cancer patients and their families. Today, we know how right they were. Since 1949, thousands have been assisted with services and supplies by the Peregrine Society. All provided free of charge.

In 2024

Peregrine celebrates its 75th year of serving cancer patients in need and is dedicated to continue providing for area cancer patients until the day that cancer is finally cured.

The pictures below

all from 1949, are of the Society’s first board of directors and of the many volunteers who helped get Peregrine up and running. I don’t imagine they realized the impact their vision would have on the lives of so many in our community or that the need today remains as great as it was in 1949.

Staff

Our Team & Leadership

Shari and Laura both began their work at Peregrine in 1993, Shari in March and Laura in July. In 2023 they celebrated 30 years of working together and as the picture under the 30 year banner shows, after working together for so long, they sometimes even sort of dress alike.

In a small office, you very often have to wear different hats to get the job done and that is as true in the Peregrine office as anywhere else. The first and most important role is providing patient services everything else comes after that.

With only two full-time staff, Peregrine is able to keep its overhead low allowing 85 cents of every dollar donated to go to provide critical services for area cancer patients.
